Baby Jail

Making these two posts back to back probably comes off a little like crime and punishment, or pain and consequences. I promise you, the two posts are not related.

This is Dylan's new baby jail (or PlayZone if you are the manufacturer). It arrived yesterday and we both LOVE it! Now I can let her have floor time without the dogs getting on her mat and without her crawling off it. Plus I now have no need for a toy bin because the toys are now all contained, but more importantly so is she! So far this is the best baby purchase we have made. It makes my life a lot easier and she gets to play.

Notice in the pictures she is standing. Yep, she first pulled herself up to a standing position a little over two weeks ago. I got her the little piano so she could use it to stand and because she loves to dance to music. Baby dancing is so cute.

My first black eye

Dylan gave her first black eye last week. It was to me, which was my first black eye. My daughter and I got to share a first together.

Last Friday I was laying in bed while Dylan crawled all over me. This is what she's usually doing in bed if not sleeping. I tell her it's what baby gorillas do. However, Mama gorillas don't show bruises as easily (I'm guessing). Dylan lost her grip and her forehead came crashing down on my eyebrow. Later that day I was at the sink and noticed a spot on my eye. It was sore when I touched it and that made me remember what had happened. I laughed and called Andy to report the abuse.

The bruise got much darker after the picture was taken, but it is now fading to yellow. It was a little embarrassing when I would remember it was there while out in public. No one commented on it though, which made it a little more weird.

What I have learned from this incident is that I need to practice more self defense moves like ducking and weaving because my little one is bound to get me again. She's just all over the place and so strong.

take all the girls to work day

This past Monday we did something very fun and different. All of us girls, Lena included, went to work with Daddy! We started with a vet visit for Lena to get her Addison's disease treatment, then we went and picked up Nika and then Byron to take on an offleash hike. We had a very full car with Daddy driving, Lena riding shotgun, Mommy and Dylan in the backseat and the guest pups in the way back of the wagon. Next we went to Birdie's where us girls took a breather in the courtyard. Off to Nipsy's after that where D and I stayed inside and played with Erika (mom) and Zeke (two year old) while Andy, Nipsy and Lena went to get Ike from his house to go on a nice walk. Then up the hill we went to Lily and Gus'. Daddy did that walk all by himself while us girls stayed in the car. Back down the hill we went to Charlie, Rolo and Wiggles as Dylan fell asleep. I stayed in the car with the napping baby while Lena worked with Dad. Our last trip was to Leonard's. Dad took the big guy out by himself while us three girls went inside to visit with Leo's person. What a big day!! Lena was so tired she couldn't even play with Bo that evening! (Erika, Nipsy's person, took the two photos of the day.)

Mimi's dress

This is D in a dress her Mimi wore when she was a baby. Unfortunately she was a little grumpy when we were trying to do our photo shoot. I especially like the "when babies attack" photo. She's fast, I tell ya!

The BabySitters Club

Last night was the second night in less than two weeks where Andy and I went out to a concert while Dylan stayed home being babysat by Henry and Roxanne. When I walked through the door, this is what I saw. My baby was awake, but being quiet and still (quite rare) and snuggling with Roxanne. This is pretty much as cuddly as she gets. She's more independent than cuddly, for sure.

Dylan is still getting used to me being gone. It doesn't happen very frequently, but we're trying to change that. We both need a little time apart from one another. On the plus side she took a bottle! It did take about 6 hours for it to happen, but she finally got hungry enough to take about an ounce of milk.
