At Six Months

Dylan had her 6 month check-up today. She weighs 18 pounds, is 26.5 inches long, and her head is 17 inches around! She got 3 shots and one oral vaccination. She goes back in for her next physical at the end of November. We will go back next month so we can all get flu vaccines (her doctor will shoot all three of us up).

The doctor was very pleased with Dylan's balance while she was sitting up. She is overall very healthy and growing consistently.

Her most recent solid food is brussel sprouts and she loves them. Other than pickles they are her favorite so far. We can now introduce fruits (except citrus and berries) and grains and start giving her two little meals a day instead of just one.

For her half birthday she is getting a highchair and a new bathtub from her mom and dad!

Big SD Weekend

As I mentioned in the earlier post, Dylan and I spent last weekend visiting family in San Diego. Daddy took us to Union station on Thursday morning and us girls took the train to Solana Beach where Granny Jo and Great Aunt Carrie picked us up. The train ride was crowded, but we managed to get a seat to ourselves. There were some other kids on board which helped to keep the wee one entertained for the two and a half hours we were on board.

Thursday evening a friend from college, Brook, came over and had dinner with us. It was great catching up with her.

On Friday we went out shopping a bit, got a few cute outfits from a baby consignment shop. That evening we had our old neighbors, Ginger and Mohamed, over for dinner. That too was a great visit. Their youngest daughter just got married and we got to hear all about the lovely wedding (my parents weren't able to attend because they were on their Alaskan cruise!).

On Saturday Poppa Ed took Dylan and I out to lunch at the Chicken Pie Diner while the rest of the clan went with Aunt Kailee to donate her hamster, Juno, to the humane society. Lunch was great and Dylan got lots of attention (as always). Turns out Juno is unadoptable, so the humane society wouldn't take her. Looks like Aunt Kailee is stuck being a hamster mommy to a very bitey hamster! The remainder of Saturday was spent doing laundry, packing and visiting.

Dylan and I were back on the train returning home Sunday late morning.

We had such a great time! We look forward to our next long visit with Granny and Poppa!

This is Dylan sucking on her first dill pickle. Crazy, I know, but she loved it! Aunt Carrie is a huge fan of pickles and she asked if she could let Dylan lick one. I thought, sure, the kids gonna think it's sour and gross and make a funny face, why not. Well, I was very wrong. She grabbed Carrie's hand and held it so she couldn't take the pickle away. Both Carrie and Dylan have earned nicknames because of the experience! And Dylan got to enjoy pickle every night on our trip.

Dylan and I spent the past four days in San Diego visiting family. I'm working on a big post about our great visit with tons of pictures.
To tide you over, here is a growth update:
Dylan has been practicing her "Dadadadas" for a couple of weeks now. She "talks" a lot! Some day we'll know what she's saying, but until then we can pretend it's all a rave review of our parenting!
She rolled over (front to back) this past weekend for the first time!
She clung to my sister (Aunt Kailee) instead of coming to me. She's never clung to someone else before. She's always been ready to cling like a monkey to the mama tree.
She can add banana and green peas (I like to tell her she's a member of Green Peas) to her list of tried foods....and another special little something you'll hear about in our upcoming travel story!

the fetal position

Before I had Dylan I had read somewhere that you should have a thing - a toy perhaps - to routinely photograph your baby with so growth can be seen in the pictures. It turns out our "thing" is her car seat. I take so many pictures of her in it because that's where she spends a lot of time napping in the day and she's just so darn cute - especially when sleeping!

More Green Beans, Please

Dylan didn't care much for green beans the first few times she had them. So we switched to bananas and then came back to the beans. That did the trick!
This week we are eating cauliflower and she loves it! The only time she didn't finish her serving was when she fell asleep before she was done! I love cauliflower because it isn't very messy. It looks just like mashed potatoes.

Summer Fun

We took Dylan swimming this past Saturday. First we went to Target to buy her a floaty and some baby swim shorts. We're pretty sure she enjoyed being in the pool. She was very quiet and serious the half hour or so she was in. It was quite nice to take some time to relax pool-side.

Dylan went to her first Dodger game last night! She had loads of fun even though we lost to Arizona. Jenn and Henry were with us. It was a nice evening.
